Uppercross Hall (called the Great House) is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Musgrove, in the village of Uppercross, where they raised their numerous children (of whom, only Charles, Richard, Henrietta, Louisa, and Harry are named). There is an old-fashioned square parlor, with a small carpet and shining floor, where Henrietta and Louisa have placed their pianoforte and harp as well as flower-stands and little tables. On the walls are portraits of their ancestors, the gentlemen dressed in brown velvet and the ladies in blue satin.
