The Tilneys of Northanger Abbey are a wealthy gentry family with ties to the aristocracy, such as General Tilney's friendship with Lord Longtown. General Tilney married Miss Drummond, an heiress with twenty thousand pounds, and they had three children: Frederick, a captain in the Twelfth Light Dragoons; Henry, the rector of Woodston; and Eleanor, a viscountess.
