Sir Charles is a friend of Admiral Crawford. When Henry Crawford asks his uncle to assist William Price in his career to impress William's sister Fanny, Admiral Crawford writes Sir Charles, and Sir Charles writes the First Lord of the Admiralty; after a sequence of favors and expressions of friendship, William is promoted to Second Lieutenant of the Thrush.
