Real life connections[]

Jane Austen created the town of Sanditon, presumably as a stand-in for one of the many villages that popped up along the English coastline during the Regency era. The villages earned their money by attracting wealthy families who wanted to escape city life and go to the coast for health reasons, as the sea air was believed to work wonders for health. It is unknown which exact village Jane Austen used as her inspiration for Sanditon.

TV Show[]

The town of Sanditon is the setting of the TV series of the same name. It's first episode aired on January 20, 2020 (USA). The show was directed and written by award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies. The series stars Rose Williams (Charlotte Heywood) and Theo James (Sidney Parker).
