Sam Price is the seventh child and fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Price. He is a fine tall boy of eleven years old when his sister Fanny returns to Portsmouth after eight years living in Mansfield Park; clever, glad to be employed on errands, and able to be improved by Fanny's gentle persuasion. He joins the crew of the Thrush with his brother William. Fanny is initially distressed by the noise he makes with his brothers Tom and Charles, but once he is gone, she finds the best of their brothers has gone with him.
