Mrs. Dixon (nee Campbell) is the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Campbell, who will bequeath her twelve thousand pounds. She was raised and educated alongside Jane Fairfax, whom she loved in spite of Jane's superiority in beauty and accomplishments. She is plain, but elegant and amiable. She was not bothered when Mr. Dixon asked Jane to play for them, and never her. Jane accompanied her when she was walking out with Mr. Dixon, whom she married last October.

Mrs. Dixon invited Jane and her parents to visit her at Mr. Dixon's estate in Ireland, Baly-craig, but Jane decided to visit her grandmother Mrs. Bates and aunt Hetty Bates in Highbury instead. Emma Woodhouse speculates she might have been behind the gift of a pianoforte to Jane, but she decides it was her husband instead when really it was Frank Churchill.

Mrs. Dixon renews her invitation to Jane when her parents agree to stay at Baly-craig longer, but she refuses. She later learns of Jane's engagement to Frank Churchill.
