Mr. Wickham was an attorney[1] who became the steward of Pemberley. He was the father of George Wickham. He was an excellent man, but always poor from the extravagance of his wife, and he wouldn't have been able to provide a gentleman's education for his son without support from old Mr. Darcy.[2]
Mr. Darcy, who was his son's godfather, trusted him greatly, and before his death, Mr. Darcy promised to provide for his son in gratitude to him.[1] Mr. Wickham died soon after Mr. Darcy.[2]
