Mr. Dixon is a minor character in Emma. He is only mentioned throughout the novel by way of his knowing Jane Fairfax.
Plot[]
Mr. Dixon married Miss Campbell not long before the start of the events in the book. As such, the Campbells went to visit them, leaving Jane Fairfax to live with Mrs. and Miss Bates at Highbury. It is speculated by Emma Woodhouse and Frank Churchill that Mr. Dixon was actually more attracted to Jane than to Miss Campbell, with the latter being noted as lacking beauty (unlike the handsome Miss Fairfax). This suspicion is increased when a pianoforte arrives in Highbury for Jane as a present, with Emma speculating it is from Mr. Dixon.
