The Morlands of Fullerton consist of Richard Morland, his wife, and their ten children. Of their children James, Catherine, Sarah, Harriet, and George are named, and one of the other sons might be named Richard after his father (since it seems unlikely Mrs. Morland would refer to Catherine's father as "poor Richard" when speaking with her).
Mr. Morland is a clergyman who holds multiple livings, including one in Fullerton and another which he offers to resign to James as soon as he is old enough. This offer might have been withdrawn after James's engagement with Isabella Thorpe is broken off, but his parents' confidence that James will recover and fall in love again suggests otherwise. While not wealthy, the Morlands are able to give Catherine three thousand pounds when she marries Henry Tilney.
