Lord St. Ives is a character mentioned by Sir Walter Elliot in Persuasion. His father was an impoverished country curate, but due to his success in the navy, Lord St. Ives was raised to the peerage. Sir Walter had to give precedence to Lord St. Ives and his fellow sailor Admiral Baldwin at a party in London, much to the baronet's disgust.
