Longbourn is an village located in Hertfordshire, one mile from the town of Meryton. Mr. Bennet is the principle inhabit of the village, residing in Longbourn House with his wife and five daughters; his property in and around the village is worth two thousand pounds a year.

Longbourn House features a vestibule, drawing room, parlor, dining parlor, breakfast parlor, library, Mrs. Bennet's dressing room, and multiple bedrooms (including Mrs. Bennet's and the one Jane and Elizabeth share). The grounds feature a lawn, shrubbery, a copse, a hermitage, paddock, and a park, which while smaller than the one at Rosings is larger than that at Lucas Lodge. The estate employs a housekeeper (Mrs. Hill), two housemaids, a cook, a butler, a footman, and a coachman.

The estate is entailed to the nearest male relative, which makes it impossible for the daughters to inherit. William Collins, Mr. Bennet's cousin, whose father he disliked, is his heir.[1]
