Everingham is the estate owned by Henry Crawford in Norfolk. While he attended Westminster School and Cambridge University, he came up with a plan of improvement for the grounds that he enacted within three months of his twenty-first birthday. His half-sister Mrs. Grant praises fall of ground and timber, but Crawford thinks it is insignificant and wishes he could have done more.
Crawford visits Everingham for a fortnight in September, which he spends shooting and sleeping, before returning to Mansfield Parsonage. Later, he considers letting Everingham for seven years and taking Stanwix Lodge in Northamptonshire to remain close to Mansfield Park.
Months later, he returns to Everingham on business and discovers the steward Mr. Maddison is taking advantage of his frequent absences; however, rather than continue to handle the situation, he elopes with Maria Bertram.
